SOHO

As the development of information technology, office equipment has become more and more miniaturized. A whole new work style, based on Internet technology, came into being. That is SOHO— small office, home office. This new work style is widely accepted by most young people who admire nothing but freedom and indifference.

SOHO still is, even nowadays, a very fashionable work style and is becoming more and more popular in China. Because of SOHO, people don’t have to rush into their office every morning and they can do whatsoever they are interested in or love without considering work time and word place. People who have the privilege of working at home can feel free to do what their interest lies in and then make a living on it easily. Just imagine how fantastic it is that you can make you lunch while dealing some serious business online, baby-sit your daughter while selling your stocks to someone thousands miles away or enjoy some beautiful songs while selling thousands pounds worth of products to some retailers in some other country. It is SOHO that makes all those possible.

Because of SOHO, the boundary between home and office is not that clear. In most cases their homes are their offices. They can sleep until they really want to get up. They don’t have to follow their bosses’ instructions. They can make their own decisions on when to work and when to rest. They are actually their own bosses. The only thing that they should bare in mind is that they must finish their work in time if they want to get paid.

To work in home, one needs to be very self-disciplined. To be free does not mean you can be idle. If you stay at home doing nothing but playing computer games, how can you earn your life on your own? So even in this new work style, it is also very important for us to strike a balance between working and living. Only if one indeed strikes a balance between them, can they enjoy a successful career and happy life at the same time. There is possibility available to everybody no matter what kind of work one engages in. It is not only for SOHO.

National Day of Mourning

Today was the first day of the National Day of Mourning, which will last for three days. This morning I got up very early. After having a quick breakfast, I found myself a quiet place to do some morning readings. And then I spent the following hours in the library doing some study. During this busy period of time, I shortly forgot my sorrow.
When I came back to my dormitory after having lunch, it was half past one. I got to know that we Chinese students would gather together outside the girls’ dormitory at 2 o’clock mourning for the victims of Wenchuan earthquake. The sun was really scorching, but we knew that under the ardent sun thousands of soldiers and volunteers were fighting in the quake-hit area to save the lives of people who were crushed under fallen buildings. Why didn’t us dare to stand in the burning sunlight?
At 2:28, with horn blaring and ASW alarming, every people were in silence, sad and sorry. We were sincerely showing our sorrow to the dead and praying for the lives that were in critical danger.

My plan

“I have a plan.” This sounds so clever. When we were young, we were told to learn to make plans for the future. The New Year plans, the new semester schedule, even the birthday wish, are all kinds of plans for the future.
But how many of your gorgeous plans have been really carried out? “I am going to jog every morning.” “I will attend the Yoga class the next week.” “Read a book every night before I sleep.” Then what’s happened next? You may bought jogging shoes from the Nike store, and you bought the best jogging shoes so you will more motivated, you really ran two days, but the third day, it started to rain. You blamed the weather, and you said to yourself that you will keep running the next day. But in fact, you never ran again. Your great plan disappeared in the air, left you a pair of jogging shoes, which have been worn only two times.

Never understand.

Why we have languages? It is said to better communicate with each other. But can we really understand what’s the other guy is thinking about? I don’t think so.
Different people have different ways of observing things. So are the ways of considering them. The simplest example might be the love for the food. Why I use food here is that every one will need it and take it. Anyway, sashimi is wonderful for the Japanese classmates, but too disgusting for me. Spicy food is my favorite but seldom can my friends stand it. It is nature that we would have different comments for the same dish. “This is very delicious.” and “How terrible this is!”
For other more complicated situations, things might be not so obvious but in fact are the same. No matter how hard you try to narrate your stories, those are still your own stories. The listeners can never be you, and they will never feel as you feel.

So popular

It is quite common to see that, a long queue wait outside a new restaurant. If you ask any one of them, he or she will tell you, “It is said that the dish here is unique.” Or, “My workmate had just recommended it to me.” After tasting the great new flavor, they all look so satisfied. But do all of them enjoy it? I don’t think so, since every one has his own preference. Then why every one behaves like this? That’s the power of popularity.
Watching the TV show which you are not interested in, listening to the music which only let you wonder if the composer is trying to murder all the listeners, waiting outside the new Japanese restaurant to eat the newest sashimi, which really makes you feel disgusting, all of the activities, you are doing these not for enjoying your life, but for looks like the same with everybody else, so you could be popular too. You don’t want to be a weird guy who knows nothing about American Idols.

Prudent person

For lots of cases, when we want to make judgment to someone to see if he pay enough attention to his duty, we will consider what an ordinary person in a like position would exercise under similar circumstance.
But how can we define “an ordinary prudent person”? Dose Mr. Ordinary always behaves like a model citizen? Maybe Mr. Ordinary is living a life which we can easily find in the text books. Mr. Ordinary gets up at 7 in the morning, and then he takes a shower. After the shower, he sits before the table with the breakfast on it. While having the breakfast, he will watch TV to see what’s new in the world. He will care about the economical new, and the political head lines, but he pays no attention to the entertainment.
While Mr. Ordinary is working in the office, he won’t flirt with the ladies, but just pay undivided attention to the paper work. He has no bad habits, he never smoke, although he will drink a little before sleeping. Can such a person be called an ordinary prudent person?

Dance

Can you dance like no one is watching? I can’t.
It’s a nice day today. The sky is so blue that reminds the pure water, the sunshine is so bright that I would like to lie on the lawn. But as you know, I won’t do that. No matter how I want to dance with the falling leaves, I won’t do that. I always remind myself that I am no longer a little girl.
But while I was walking to the classroom, I saw some one dancing there. That’s a young girl. 7 years old? She looks so cute. She turned round with the rhythm of the leaves, moving like a fairy. People stopped to watch her, but she didn’t mind that all. She was so deep in her own world, no matter what was going on outside.
I envied her.

Jasmine is in bad mood these days. She finally said good bye to her boyfriend. They broke up with each other not for feelings, they still love each other and this could easily be told. But they have different life targets. It is too hard for them to share the rest of life together.
It is not easy for them to make such a decision. We all see how weak Jasmine became.
Recently, Jasmine spent a lot time with us. Sometimes she came to our party, and just sat there without any word. She used to preferring alone, and apparently she didn’t enjoy our parties. Maybe she is just too afraid of being alone. We all know that who she wants to see, none of us could make her feel better.

Dress in your own way

An old story tells us about a person who tried to learn how to dress up. This young man came to a city where said to be very fashion and every one knows how to dress in a elegant way. He learned something. Then he went to another city, the city adores nature, and all the citizens are good at dressing in a country style. The young man learned something too. But then he was bewildered. The two styles are contradict to each other, he got lost. In the end, the young man went home naked since he didn’t how to dress at all.
We could laugh at the young man for his stupid, but sometimes we will make the same mistake. We got too many suggestions form too much people, and then we forget to deal with the problem in our own way.
