Genghis Khan, he is a hero who united the whole nation of Mongolian, who was the most respectable figure in Mongolia or ancient China.
Mongolian men are considered the most masculine or macho. Mongolian women are depicted brave, contributive, supportive and loyal to their husbands. The flat, endless grassland and desert granted Mongolians both the quality of toughness and genuineness.
Mongolian society is indeed a male-oriented society, in which violence and strength are priority to anything else. Unlike many other peoples in Orient, Mongolians are straight, always solving their problems by physical battle. It is a great pride for men to be endowed with undefeated power.
There is a scene in the movie that Genghis was selecting his would-be wife. By the standard of Mongolians’ aesthetic value, girls with big feet, small eyes, round face are the idealistic wives for Mongolian men. I wonder how the criteria of beauties in Mongolians could be so different from that of other Chinese nations. What impressed me is that Genghis chose the one who went exactly the opposite, which proved to be an in dispensable for his success. He got the right one to be his wife.

In 2009, a deadly virus burned out through our civilization, pushing humankind to the edge of extinction. Dr. Robert Neville dedicated his life to the discovery of a cure and the restoration of humanity. On September 9th, 2012, at approximately 8:49 p.m., he discovered that cure, and at 8:52, he gave his life to defend it. We are his legacy. This is his legend. Light up the darkness.
There’s no God at all. Again, this is a religious matter. In the movie, Anna who coincidentally went to Dr. Robert, saved his life and persuaded him to get out of the dangerous city, New York. She was like a preacher sent by the God, believing everything in the world was planned by the God and he was going to fix with it. However, as Neville said, God didn’t exist at all. Any disaster including the virus was created by the humankind and we ourselves would make it up or we would be punched with our own fist.
Every civilization gets progressed at the expense of countless sacrifice. It’s easy to be an ordinary man while it’s the toughest to be a hero or a savior of lives.
We are social animals, with nobody exception. We need friends whatever it is a dog, a cat, or a human being. In the film, I am most impressed by the loyalty of the dog Sam. I wonder the purpose of the playwright giving the dog the name Sam which reminded me of the nickname of the US, Uncle Sam. I guess the reason is that the US was a companion and favor for every American citizen and here the dog was an essential part of Neville’s daily life in the past 3 years.
Human beings are powerful; human beings are powerless.
Now, we are faced with fatal diseases like cancers and AIDS which force us to discover vaccines to protect us from dying. I begin doubting the necessity of society developing. After mankind got civilized, the world got changed with the steps of progressing. Human beings are always thinking of us, sparing no effort to better our lives. In 2004, SARS emerged in the most populous country China. The disease later turned out to have been transmitted from a kind of wild animal called Guozili whose meat was tried by some Cantonese who were considered the wealthiest and the most innovative in eating in our country.
This year, 2008, is bound to be a bundle of unrest for China or even the earth.
Massive earthquake in China, heavy flooding in Peru, powerful cyclone in Burma, all these are like an implying warning from the earth who is trying to informing us that human beings are misusing and overusing the resources on it. “No hay derecho.” A strong came voice from beneath the layer of the earth.
The world is not flawless. Instead, it is full of dangers, darkness, and turbulence. Watch out every step we make. The right of governing the world is not granted to us human beings and we are not the center of the world as the earth is not the center of the solar system. Thus, we are supposed to respect anything in the nature.
Love, an eternal theme in the history of mankind, can sometimes be miraculous.
A dancer and a male nurse, encountered. The male nurse couldn’t help falling love
with the dancer and tried to approach her to know her further. In a traffic accident, the graceful girl got a severe hit and then became a vegetable that was only able to do nothing but to breathe. However, the nurse’s affection did not stop along with the dancer being crippled. He took care of her with all his devotion for four years. In the course of looking after her, the nurse kept talking to her about anything happened on him. The nurse spared no effort to do anything that the dance had been keen on, like watching silent movies. Love has the power to rejoice people, and it makes people go extreme. The nurse loved her so much that he tried anything to communicate with her. He strongly believed that though she was a vegetable already, she could also hear whatever he said to him. He wanted to marry her and tried to communicate with her like normal couples. She, a vegetable, got pregnant. As a result, he, the mad contributor of love, was put into jail.
A journalist and a female bullfighter met by chance. A bullfighter, a traditional vocation for males in Spain, then was the occupation of a beautiful woman. She was special, because of not only her career, but her unique personality. A bullfighter is supposed to be quite strong physically and brave psychologically, for s/he dared to fight with ferocious bulls in bullrings, but she could be cared to screaming by a snake. The journalist was assigned to interview the legendary hero in bullring, and then was attracted by her charm. A romance was only to be budding. The bullfighter was stricken by a mad bull in a battle and then became a vegetable.
The four, were destined to meet in one hospital. The two heroines were both vegetables and the two male protagonists became confidants during the time they looked after their beloved. Their friendship was remarkable. After the nurse was put into jail, when he saw the journalist who was the only one understanding him and the only one he could rely on, h
It’s considered impossible to stay a triangle love of a woman and two excellent men, but they made it. Love is said to make people selfish, while there love made the two men share one woman with all their heart. I initially thought Ilonas, the angel-like self-centered and self-interested, with two men around her, loving her. I couldn’t understand her. How could she fall in love with both of them simultaneously? She then turned out to pour all her to love the two. By the standard of traditional value, the two men were cuckolds. The two men absolutely sacrificed, because they loved her so much that they were willing. So did Ilonas.
A composer, Andras, created a melancholic song entitled Gloomy Sunday, which then made many people committed suicide for the sake of dignity. It had been said to be satanic whereas then was proved innocent. It was indeed magical for it left people think of the real significance of life. Some people hold a value that life should keep its purity and not be stained; while others had a faith that life is supposed to be prolonged in whatever way so as to struggle for an ideal.
The Jewish restaurant boss, Geigenspieler, saved another man who had been in his restaurant everyday for years only in order to see Ilonas, but he finally died because of the man who also loved Ilonas. This reminded me of the story of the farmer and the snake. Hence, don’t be too tolerant as a man for someday the one you saved may in turn kill you.
What impressed me most in the movie is the beautiful scenery in the city of Budapest. Budapest, the capital of Poland, was said to be the quietest capital in the world. In China, people are fond of skyscrapers which they think is the sign of modern, but such high buildings can make people dizzy and depressed. I guess it must be quite fantastic to live a satisfied life in such a city without many skyscrapers. In my lifetime, I swear, I’m sure to go there whether to live or only travel.
I always think that it is really stupid to watch TV program such as “super girl”, “happy boy” and so on. It seems that only who always likes to daydream will watch this kind of audition.
But unfortunately, I myself, kind of being addicted to American Idol. I’m keep watching this program each week.
I love Brook White, and she was considered as the most” vulnerable, emotional and genuine contestant.” From the national-wide audition, I just kind of love her. She is awesome, a typical blonde. Kind-hearted, nice. However, she is eliminated today and stops in the hope of becoming American Idol. I don’t know why. She is so talented and so potential though sometimes she acts not so professionally, I mean she re-started her performances because she forgot the lyrics twice. Her voice is so unique and has her own element. Her interpretation of each song, her instinct of affection of each song, her easy-going attitude, her gift of playing piano and guitar and her…
She is so amazing I thought Jason or Syesha, either of them would be eliminated tonight, but it turns out to be Brook, oh my dear Brook. I can even hum each song she sang in American Idol. Each song she sang is just so pleasant and makes you feel so comfortable. Her performances are so consistent and steady, but after American voted, nothing can change the fact that she’s eliminated tonight.
She cries so badly tonight which touches me so much. I never felt so moved by such kind of entertainment show, never ever. But this time, American Idol changes me.
OK, cheer up, Brook, I hope that you could get a record deal and be a real star. Actually, you are already a super start in my heart.
God bless all of you.
My aunt Edith was a widow of 50, working as a secretary, when doctors discovered what was then thought to be a very serious heart ailment. Aunt Edith doesn accept defeat easily. She began studying medical reports in the library and found an article in a magazine about a well-known heart surgeon, Dr. Michael DeBakey, of Houston, Texas. HE had saved the life of someone with the same ailment. The article said Dr. DeBakey fees were very high; Aunt Edith couldn possibly pay them. But could he tell her of someone whose fee she could pay? So Aunt Edith wrote to him. She simply listed her reasons for wanting live: her three children, who would be on their own in three or four more years, her little-girl dream of traveling and seeing the world. There wasn a word of self-pity—only warmth and humor and the joy of living. She mailed the letter, not really expecting an answer. A few days later, my doorbell rang. Aunt Edith didn wait to come in; she stood in the hall and read aloud: our beautiful letter moved me very deeply. If you can come to Houston, there will be no charge for either the hospital or the operation. Signedichael DeBakey. That was seven years ago. Since then, Aunt Edith has been around the world. Her three children are happily married. For her age, she is one of the youngest, most alive people I know—-all because of an open heart surgeon who knew how to honor of his profession, and how to open his own heart.
Five days went away quickly. Now it is time to go back to the place that I work in, the place that is far away from my hometown now.
I think for someone like me, sometime it is very important to slow down and look back. There are so many things left behind which I should pay some attention to, such like those who care about me, those who I care for. In the crowded city I work, I usually find it is hard to remind me of so many precious in my life. Everyday all I think about is work, work and work. But in fact, there are many things much more important than work and money. It is love and a peaceful heart. These are the most important things which will stand back for us when I need help.
Yeah, time keeps going on. My life does too.
In a loving song there is lyric like this, “I fell you by fingers, I feel you by soul”. It is strange that by touching something with your finger, the feeling for that thing will change. Especially you are touching your beloved.
In the movie The City of Angels, the angel struggled to touch and feel the girl he loved, but he failed since he didn’t have real body. Her hair looks so soft, her sleeping face was so cute as a baby, how he wanted to feel her by his fingers.
Once you are touching your lover, what comes to the bottom of your heart is far more than the clear definition as “This is soft”. The warmth which can not be described with word will around you. No wonder this simple movement will highly improve the intimacy between people.
Now we all have the idea of internal clock, and we all know the importance of it. If we want to live a healthy life, our internal clock will be a needful character. With it, we will wake up early in the morning, feel hungry same time everyday, and be sleepy at night. Then we get up, we have meals, and we sleep. What’s crucial is not we done the routine, is we do it on time.
For me, it is interesting my little internal clock won’t work for my self, but for some one else. For instance, I could wake up before 8, but last morning, since Martha asked me to wake her up at 7 so she would not miss the interview, I wake up at a quarter to 7 with out any clock ringing. I was amazed for myself.
Generally speaking, if you are invited to a ball, the invitation will come to you a week or two earlier than the party time. If this is a form party, the invitation will come even a month earlier. If you haven’t got the invitation 3 days before the party, you will realize that you are not welcomed by the host. Every body knows this, but hardly anyone dare to admit this. People will find lots of excuses for the host, “He would call me at the last minute and give me a surprise.” “He is too busy to check all the invitations. He must forget about sending mine.”
How about there still is no invitation till the party time? Then they will find other excuses for themselves. “Such party is too boring.” “I won’t go there anyway.” They try to behave like they refuse the invitation, but we all know that’s not true.
